The Pros of Creating Your Health Coaching Website

1. Cost-effective

Creating a website yourself is a lot more affordable than hiring a professional web designer. You’ll (of course) still have to pay for your business domain, website builder, and other online tools, but those are minimal costs.

2. Full creative control

You have complete control over the design, content, and features of your website. You can get as creative as your heart desires and have fun creating different font pairings, color palettes, visuals, and more.

3. Learn new skills

Building a website yourself can be a great learning experience where you can develop new skills. You can improve your technical skills and develop a better understanding of how websites work. This experience can increase your confidence and help you get outside of your comfort zone if you feel like you’re not “the creative type.”

4. Flexibility

Since you’ve spent time creating your website, you’ll feel confident whenever you need to make changes and updates to your website. It’ll be super convenient to update images when you have a new brand photo shoot and update your copywriting or product and service suites.

The Cons of Creating Your Health Coaching Website

1. Time-consuming

Building a website can be a very time-consuming process, especially if you don’t have any experience building websites. You’ll probably spend a lot of time staring back at a blank webpage not knowing what to add to your website.

Google will be your best friend to search for how to navigate the website builder you’ve chosen. This, over time, might cause burnout and feelings of overwhelm.

2. Limited expertise

Without professional design knowledge, your website may not be as polished or user-friendly as a professionally designed site. Also, there probably won’t be a website strategy and strategy is so important in website design.

It’s what high-converting websites have that help to achieve specific business goals. From increased newsletter opt-ins to discovery call bookings, and more.

Branding is also a skill that requires intentionality and knowledge so everything flows together well. From the typography, color palette, logo, visuals, and more. It can be a lot to take on for a beginner with little to no experience.

3. Technical issues

You may experience technical challenges that require troubleshooting, and a Google search might not have the specific answers you’re looking for. It might cause frustration which can be discouraging.

4. Potential for errors

There is a higher chance of making mistakes or overlooking important elements when building a website yourself. For example, if you have a lead magnet it’s important to know how to integrate it into your website so that everything connects properly and sends the correct content to your audience.

Also, having a basic website SEO (search engine optimization) strategy in place is important so your website can be found (over time) by your dream clients when they search on Google.

The Pros of Hiring a Website Designer

1. Professional results

A professional designer has the expertise to create a high-quality and visually appealing, branded website. Your branding will align with the vision you have for your health coaching business and can attract your ideal health coaching clients.

The website will have a great strategy that meets your most important business goals (such as increasing discovery call bookings) and basic SEO (search engine optimization) to help your website, over time, rank whenever your ideal client searches on Google.

All the DIY website overwhelm and frustration is fully eliminated and you don’t have to worry about having “creative blocks” when designing your branding and website pages.

2. Time-saving

Hiring a professional frees up your time to focus on other aspects of your business that you enjoy doing. From content creation to health coaching your clients to hosting wellness workshops. This will not only save you time but also save your energy for the areas of your health coaching business you enjoy!

3. Technical support

A professional designer can easily handle any technical issues that arise. They also can provide helpful, instructional videos that show you how to navigate your website and make updates in the future to your images, copywriting, various elements, and more.

4. Customization

You can work with a web designer to create a unique and customized, branded website tailored to your wellness business. This will help you stand out from the large sea of other health coaches.

Your wellness journey, wellness philosophy, and experience and skills are unique and different from other health coaches and a web designer can help your health coach branding and website reflect that.

The Cons of Hiring a Website Designer

1. Higher cost

Hiring a professional designer can be more expensive than building a website yourself, but you’re paying for their expertise, insight, and strategy.

Although you’re paying more, you’re saving time, energy, and saving yourself from feeling overwhelmed from figuring out website building and branding yourself.

2. Less control

You may have less control over the timeline of the web design project. For example, if a designer is booked for months with clients your desired website launch date may need to be changed to a later time. Although that’s outside of your control, you can have your deliverables (such as images and copywriting) completed ahead of time to ensure that your design project is completed at a faster pace.

3. Communication challenges

It’s essential to communicate clearly with your designer to ensure they understand your website vision and goals. A good web designer should have a good process in place for you to both communicate, however not having a process in place can slow down the design schedule and cause miscommunication.

For example, scheduling brand and strategy Zoom calls, and staying in contact via email, can ensure your website vision is exactly what you want it to be. Also, you can let your designer know of the changes you want for your website so they can make revisions before your website officially launches!

4. Dependency

If you’re not that tech-savvy you might have to rely on the designer for updates and changes, which can be costly and add up over time. I would recommend choosing a web designer that offers instructional videos you can reference (after the web design project is completed). This way, you can easily and confidently make updates and changes to your website without needing to be dependent on a website designer.

Taking these pros and cons into consideration can help you make the best decision on whether to build a health coaching website yourself or hire a professional web designer. Keeping your time, energy, skillset, business budget, and business goals in mind can help with your decision process.
