7 DIY Health Coach Website Design Mistakes to Avoid

Let’s delve into the world of website design, uncovering 7 crucial DIY website design mistakes that health coaches often encounter.

From aesthetics to functionality, let’s explore these common pitfalls to having a wellness website that looks good and effectively serves your health coach business goals! After all, your online presence is a key aspect of reaching and connecting with clients.

1. No branding

Branding makes a huge difference in how someone perceives your health coach brand and business, and effective branding can give off a great first impression. I recommend creating a simple branding kit with a few fonts, a color palette, a logo, and other brand elements such as inspirational brand visuals from stock images.

A branded website creates a cohesiveness that encourages visitors to browse your site and can cause your health coach brand to stand out from other health coaches.

2. Overusing stock photos

Although stock photos are wonderful, it’s best to keep them to a minimum. Add photos to your website that show off your personality and who you are! You can take your photos with an iPhone, phone tripod, and a clicker to automatically consecutively capture multiple photos. Add props such as plants, wellness products, or even healthy meals to have a variety of photos.

By having photos of yourself on your website it builds trust and minimizes a lack of personalization and inauthenticity that stock photos can cause. After all, your audience wants to see you and the person who’s behind the brand!

3. Cluttered navigation

I recommend having a main website navigation that has a maximum of 5 options. A cluttered navigation overwhelms visitors with too many options to choose from. Home, About, Work With Me, Blog or Resources, and Contact pages are great navigation pages to start with. If you have more pages you want to add that are not priority pages, you can simply add those to the website footer.

4. Lack of systems

If a prospective client wants to work with you, make it simple and super easy for them. If you offer 1-on-1 health coaching, embed a booking scheduler on your website for initial free discovery calls. This will make the process from prospective client to signed client a more streamlined and efficient process.

It’s better than directing visitors to a contact form. Since they’re a “hot lead,” and really want to work with you, make it easy for them without the unnecessary guesswork and extra steps.

5. Lack of a freebie

Build an email list. Only focusing on social media platforms can be a recipe for disaster, because any platform can shut down at a moment’s notice. Create a super valuable freebie that your ideal clients want, add it to your website, and promote it on your social platforms.

An email list is so valuable. You can create an engaged, super supportive group of amazing people who want to hear from you and purchase your products and services. You’ll be able to stay connected with your audience even if social media platforms decide to shut down or malfunction.

6. No custom website domain

If you were interested in hiring a health coach, which website domain would you rather visit?

HealthyWithHeather.com or Site.HealthyWithHeather.Sample.com?

I’m pretty sure you’d rather visit the site that’s HealthyWithHeather.com. (I know I would). This website domain looks legit and sounds more professional than the latter domain. Website domains are fairly inexpensive and can cost $12 yearly. That’s a great price to have a professional, credible-sounding website that people will want to visit! It’s also important because it creates a consistent brand.

7. No custom email

Similar to a website domain, I recommend creating a professional business email to keep your branding consistent. It’s better to have an email that’s hello@healthywithheather than greenansbluecolors7321111@gmail. You can create a professional-sounding Gmail email or create an email from your website domain (which is the option I would recommend choosing).

By steering clear of these 7 DIY website design mistakes, you’re laying the foundation for a compelling online presence that resonates with your audience. Here’s to a user-friendly, visually appealing, and impactful website that enhances your health coach brand and business.
